About us
Guiding WAC with wisdom and foresight are seven directors who bring together years of experience and a deep understanding of our cultural heritage. Their leadership ensures that our principal activities in land management and tourism are not just business ventures but endeavours that nurture and celebrate our connection to the land.
Region
The Bolmo, Matjba, and Wurrkbarbar clans have connections to the southern Mary River region of Kakadu National Park, West Arnhem Land, and portions of the Victoria Daly region in the Northern Territory.
WAC is deeply committed to preserving and promoting its land and the rich cultural heritage of its people. The directors are dedicated to creating pathways that strengthen the organisation and build a strong business model to pave the way for sustainable employment, education, and land management for future generations. They envision a thriving organisation that preserves and celebrates cultural heritage and increases social and economic development within their community. They aim to foster strategic partnerships, embrace innovation, and leverage their skills to create a strong organisation that empowers its people, opens doors of opportunity, and ensures the longevity of traditions.
They are the decision makers for the Mary River Roadhouse, also known as Goymarr Tourist Resort and Wirnnwirnmila. The Roadhouse is nestled just outside the magnificent Kakadu National Park’s southern entrance. It’s the
current headquarters for Werenbun Aboriginal Corporation and only a 60 km drive from the Stuart Highway turn-off near Pine Creek along the Kakadu Highway.
WAC received funding from the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) to support the Werenbun Ranger program for the Kakadu Indigenous Rangers Program (KIRP). This program offers Indigenous ranger training, where participants gain hands-on experience in land management and cultural conservation. WAC also established various professional services to support our community and beyond in 2024.
